Did you know that between 1996-1997 and 2006-2007 student enrollment at Slippery Rock University increased by 12.9%, the size of the administration increased by 13.3%, and yet the number of tenure-track faculty declined by 5.7% during the same time period? Did you know that between 1996-1997 and 2006-2007 the number of tenure-track faculty at SRU declined by 5.7% while the number of non-tenured faculty increased by 162%?

Did you know that between 1997 and 2006, the average number of students per faculty member at SRU has increased by 10% percent?

Did you know that between the fall of 1994 and the fall of 2006, that after adjusting for inflation, the average salary of management at SRU increased 17.5%, whereas the average salary of faculty at SRU actually decreased 7.3%?

Did you know that the faculty salaries within the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) are often not competitive with public school teachers in the commonwealth? In two Allegheny county school districts, a teacher with a bachelor's degree at the highest step in the salary scale makes between 18.6% and 22.8% more than a PASSHE assistant professor at the highest step, even though the vast majority of assistant professors have doctorates. Even when university faculty members are promoted to associate professor and work to the highest step, public school teachers with a bachelor's degree at the highest step still make more.
